A summer that never ends, a tropical island in the heart of the city, a place for neighbours to meet up and a place for experimentation; a site devoted to hospitality, relaxation and social play.
Isla Ciudad is all of this, and everything that the citizens want. It is the intervention by the eXYZt collective on the grounds of the former sports premises near Mercado de la Cebada, which will also last for another two weeks.
An urban island where, during La noche en blanco, the musical stage Sound It Yourself will be set up, featuring Fela Borbone, Fiera, Los Caballos de Dusseldorf and Meneo, along with a complete schedule with summer films, live music, workshops and children’s games during the two ensuing weeks.
eXYZt was founded from the desire of five architects -Nicolas Henninger, Francois Wunschel, Phillipe Rizzotti, Pier Schneider and Pilles Burba- to construct architecture together. Their team is also a platform of multidisciplinary creation which brings together around 20 people, including architects, graphic artists, video artists, photographers, DJs, botanists and builders. Each of the collective’s interventions falls within a given time and place, often taking the guise of temporary installation. Their interventions are site-specific, so that the surroundings determine the project. Their projects speak about generating micro-environments, tiny habitats, other worlds.
Today eXYZt is an association which, under shared objectives, serves to help its members share knowledge and skills. its partnerships have extended all over the planet. “Action, life and exchange” are this collective’s keywords; conceiving a kind of architecture through action and filling it with multiple uses that promote encounters and exchanges. All of their projects as a whole encourage visitors to abandon their purely contemplative attitude and turn into actors and agents of the project.
